Summer Guide To Working Out In Humid/Warm Weather

What are some problems caused by training in a humid environment?

Humidity can pose as a huge problem for those of us who love to exercise, especially when it comes to training comfortably and having clear skin.

What humidity does is create a harder atmosphere to maintain your body temperature during intense weight-lifting or cardio workouts.

Another effect of humidity is that your body’s capacity to cool itself is lowered due to the increased heat. (

Here are some tips that you can use in order to train safely and comfortably in warm and humid climates.

First, let us outline what we are fighting against. One, we are trying to avoid heat-induced complications like a heat stroke or dehydration.

Two, we are trying to prevent yeast/fungal acne from growing on our faces/bodies as a result of sweating in a humid atmosphere.

Humidity actively adds stress onto our faces/bodies and this makes your workouts both feel more strenuous and more difficult to recover from, that is why it is important to follow the tips below in order to prevent your body from having a stroke or over-heating.

Additionally, training under humid circumstances can create bacteria and yeast that grows on your skin if you are not careful.

How can I train comfortably in humid weather?

-Make sure to stay hydrated

-Wear light coloured, loose or light-textured clothing

-Avoid mid-day workouts (try to avoid the sun’s harsh rays when they are at their strongest: try to avoid training before 10 AM or after 4 PM) 

-Pace yourself while you are at the gym and make sure to slow down if you feel overheated 

-Eat watermelon and water-based fruits

How can I avoid fungal acne?

In order to prevent having fungal acne, I want to share with you the following tips that you can follow before/during your next workout:

  1. Use a face mist (I recommend a good brand below)
  2. Use body-wipes during your workout to wipe yourself off mid-workout (I also recommend a brand below)
  3. Remove make-up before training
  4. Do not touch equipment/hair or face while working out  
  5. Avoid staying in sweaty gym clothes 

Finally, here are three things that you can do if you are currently struggling with fungal acne. Fungal acne is notorious for developing as a result of sweating/training in a humid and warm environment.

  1. Wear a charcoal mask
  2. Use an anti-fungal shampoo to get rid of the fungal acne as it develops
  3. Avoid tight clothing unless necessary
  4. Invest in products containing salicylic acid 

Finally I want to share with you guys some brands that I recommend as part of your clear/glowing skin routine in a humid environment.

A good rule of thumb is to keep it simple and try to reduce the amount of oils that you use on your face (especially coconut or olive oil).
